At the heart of the Grand Massif ski area, Flaine is set in a sunny bowl with an excellent snow record and connects with a surprisingly large ski area, thus cutting down on lift queues. The skiing is varied and extensive. You can either stay in the immediate bowl or cross the rim and drop down to one of the four other neighbouring ski villages of Les Carroz, Morillon, Sixt and Samoëns. Our Opinion At the core of France's fourth largest ski area, the Grand Massif, Flaine is essentially designed for intermediates. However beginners can enjoy the greens around the western side of the bowl and experts will find a more than ample choice of terrain throughout the Grand Massif. Après Ski Although Flaine is known to be a fairly quiet, family orientated resort we can still recommend a couple of lively sports such as The Cimes Rock Café and the White Grouse Pub Price Check World Snowboard Guide Flaine offers some great and varied terrain for different abilities. Freeriders have some great opportunities for off-piste riding, with long interesting runs to tackle. Advanced riders should check out Combe de Gers which is a steep back bowl that drops away with 700m of vertical! Freestylers will enjoy the 2 mile long fun-park and there is also a kids park called the Fatasurf! Carvers are really at home here however and Flaine was one of the first carving capitals of France.
